Unit 2: Looking to God

In this Unit, there will be a tendency to be drawn to the examples and illustrations given surrounding the issue of God communicating His purposes to us. (The Sermon for today)

Our tendency would be to skip over the introductory material (Days 1 and 2) and “cut to the chase.” Why?

Let’s look at this statement made at the beginning of this Unit by the author:
“To know and to do God’s will, you must deny self and return to a God-centered life.” Blackaby, Pg 32. Do you agree?

SO…
How does Blackaby’s Summary Statement square with Philippians 2:13:
“It is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

And how does Luther’s application of Romans 6:4 apply here as he explains in the Fourth Part on Holy Baptism in his Small Catechism?
What does such baptizing with water indicate?
It indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires, and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever.

What are the similarities in the three statements? Are there any differences?

Taking what we have learned here… Let’s look at some other “Summary Statements”

I must focus my life on God’s purposes, not my own plans.

I must seek to see from God’s perspective rather from my own distorted human outlook.

I must wait until God shows me what He is about to do through me.

I will watch and see what God is doing around me and join Him.

What is my responsibility? What is God’s?
