Unit 6: God Speaks

Ways that God communicates with us covered in the Unit this week:

Silences …
Circumstances …
The Church …

How would we define each?

What do they have in common? How are they different? How reliable is each on its own?

Let’s look at the Church. (We’ll look at how God communicates to the church as a whole in later units. This unit focuses on how the church can/will be a way that God communicates His Truth to me.)

Matthew 18:20
1 Peter 2:9
1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Ephesians 4:15-16

Speaking of communicating Truth, consider these words from the Lutheran Confessions about “applying the Gospel to an individual.”

“God is surpassingly rich in His grace: First, through the spoken word, by which the forgiveness of sin (the peculiar function of the Gospel) is preached to the whole world; second, through Baptism; third, through the holy Sacrament of the Altar; fourth, through the power of keys; and finally, through the mutual conversation and consolation of the brethren.” (Smalcald Articles III IV)
