Pastor's Message

Greetings, in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Well, we could take this page and talk about the wonderful opportunity to witness to God’s Love that He made out of our humble, Sunday School  Easter-egg Hunt in Henryville, IN, last month.   Or, we could talk about the nearly 200 visitors we had in worship on Confirmation Sunday…

But both of those events are now in our past.   However, they show us that God’s definitely up to something in our midst … And here’s an example of this that we see on the horizon for this month of May:

Something we have not done in many years is going to be done as part of our participation in a district-wide initiative in Family Ministry… we are going to have:

Assessment Sunday!

What is that?   It is an opportunity for EVERY MEMBER of Our Savior to take an in-depth survey of our church life.   That pretty well sums it up … it is in-depth … and it covers almost ever facet of what we do … and don’t do … as a Body of Christ.

That’s exciting!  And here are the nuts-and-bolts:

Who: Every member.  (a youth version is being drafted)

What: A Survey that will take about 15-20 minutes to complete

When: Beginning with Assessment Sunday:  May 20th thru June 1st

Where: The Survey is taken on-line.  Members will be given the web-link to take the survey.  Those without on-line access will be able to do one of the following:

  1. Take the survey on a computer at church.
  2. Take the Survey on paper and have a church volunteer enter the survey into the computer.

Why: This Survey will help set the course Our Savior’s future.

How: We will get an 80-page analysis of our survey results which WILL be presented to the congregation…  I promise!

LOOK what God is doing!!

In Him,
Pastor Fausel

Notes from the Music Director

Dear friends,

“And down the stretch they come!!” Does this phrase sound familiar to you?  If you are acquainted with our state’s love for horse racing, then you know that this is a rallying cry that the announcer shouts just as the horses round the last corner and head for the straight path to the finish.  It’s one of my favorite parts of the Kentucky Derby.  It adds to the excitement of those final moments of the race.  We’re on our feet yelling and cheering.  All too soon, however, the race is over, our excitement wanes, and we move on.

We are in a time of the church year when we are nearing the end of an exciting occasion.  We have just celebrated the joy of Easter in all its triumph and glory.  The trumpets have sounded and we have been filled with excitement and elation!  As we come down the stretch through the month of May and approach the month of June, we will soon enter into the second half of the church year.  From Advent and Christmas all the way to the Easter season, we have been focusing on the major events in Christ’s life.  We call this time the “Festival Half” of the church year.  When we reach the festival of Pentecost (May 27), we then enter into the of the church year that lasts all the way to Thanksgiving.  The readings focus more on our response to God’s love.  As its name implies, there are far fewer special occasions to “celebrate.”

A great temptation for us is to think that the race is over.  We’ve experienced the festivities of Christmas and Easter, and now we face a long period of worship without a festival.  Sometimes the devil tempts us to lose interest.  Summer comes upon us with its warm weather.  Vacations beckon.  We sometimes lose our focus and become distracted.

But our worship continues, as it well should!  God forgives us our short attention span and calls us back to Himself.  He sees our weakness and encourages us on.  This is all the more reason to join with our fellow Christians in corporate worship to praise our loving God.  We can also learn a lot about ourselves and our relationship to God in these Pentecost weeks.

I pray that you will be able to continue to worship regularly this summer.  If you are vacationing, look up a church in the phone book.  It can be a very edifying experience for both you and the church itself.  One summer, my family attended a very small church that met in the living room of a converted ranch style home.  We weren’t very dressed up, but that didn’t matter.  The people were so delighted to have us there to worship with them.  It was a beneficial service for all of us.  Try it!

I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”  Psalm 122:1

Yours in Christ,

Scott Kamman
Director of Music

Thank You! A great big thank you to all our singers, handbell ringers, and instrumentalists who made our Holy Week and Easter services so special.  Thanks also to all who participated in the MESSIAH Sing-a-long.  To God be the glory!

Worship Reminders:
Please respect the quiet time of meditation before the service begins. Enter the sanctuary reverently and with worship in mind. Socializing is best done in the narthex or lounge areas before and after the service. Also, please remember that if you arrive late for church, wait until the congregation begins singing a hymn or piece of the liturgy before being seated. That is the appropriate time to enter into worship. Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere.

Chapel worship: Everyone is invited to worship with the school children each week as they gather for chapel on Wednesdays at 8:45 AM in the sanctuary. It is an excellent opportunity for midweek worship. Come and join us!

Song of the month: The children in our dayschool learn a special hymn or song of the month as part of their worship and religion class experience.  Continuing through the month of May, they will be learning and singing the song, “On the Third Day,” written by Matt Maher and Marc Byrd.  The poetic words remind us that “Everything must die to rise again.”

Creation brings an offering
As autumn leaves turn to gold
The trees bow down in highest praise
Now made bare before Your throne
The western sky an amber blaze
At the end of the day
For ev'rything must die
To rise again

Chorus: On the third day behold the King
On the third day death has no sting
On the third day
We're forgiven and reconciled

The winter's chill a bitter cold
As sin and shame leave us to fall
The clouds now full of newborn snow
For grace to come and save us all
Within the darkest night of man
Was found Your saving hand
For ev'rything must die
To rise again  Chorus

The earth it groans in labor pains
As flowers stretch to heav'n above
Your creatures sing the prophet's song
To be a gift of selfless love
The sun is rising in the east
And Your Spirit is unleashed
For ev'rything must die
To rise again  Chorus

And so we wait in joyful hope
For You to come and take us home
And so we join beneath the cross
In suffering from whence we go
The greatest act of sov'reign grace
In the universe displayed
For ev'rything must die
To rise again  Chorus

Answer to the April quiz: The hymn that has a verse that begins “Easter triumph, Easter joy!” is “At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing” (LSB 633)

May quiz:
Which song states, “Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior; the Hope of nations?”

Contemporary Worship Teams: Singers and musicians, if you are out there, know that we are always in need of volunteers to help us out at our 11:00 AM Majestic Celebration worship services.  We are especially in need of guitarists, as well as wind instrumentalists.  If you would like to sing or play on a regular basis, talk to Scott (426-1130).  Time commitment depends solely on you, as little or as much as you desire.  We need you!

Thank you! Thanks to all who helped out in any way to make our spring musical, “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” a great success.  We appreciate your support..

Hearing Assist devices: Had trouble hearing well in our sanctuary?  These small sound amplifying devices are available from the ushers.  Please ask for them!  They amplify what is going through our sound system.  If you would like to purchase your own personal set of earphones for use with the church sound system, please contact the church office.  (These devices do not work outside the sanctuary.)

Worship Notes

What is the Paschal Candle?

It is the largest candle in the sanctuary that has special significance.  The flame of the Paschal candle symbolizes Christ's illuminating light, and His presence in the midst of his people. The Paschal candle is sometimes referred to as the "Christ candle."

Ordinarily it is located near the baptismal font.  During the Fifty Days of Easter (Easter through Pentecost) it is placed near the altar.  It is also used at baptisms and funerals.  At funerals it stands near the casket.

Paschal comes from the Greek word for Passover and refers specifically to the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

In an effort to try to help us all learn about our worship life and liturgy, we offer this little “tidbit” of information each month. It can serve as a review for you, an answer to that question, “Why do we do that?”, or as a teaching tool for our children or grandchildren. Please share this with your family. Discuss it prior to worship. If there is something you would like to have answered, let me know. I’ll do my best to find out!

This Bible study takes you beyond merely filling in the right answers. Instead, it challenges you to dig a little deeper, explore a little further, and make personal application of the passages to your life. As you do, you'll be drawn closer to the Savior, who washes away our sins.

New Phone Prayer Chain Forming

It has come to our attention that there are members of Our Savior who do not have the internet available or the daily newspaper.  They would like to be informed of a death or serious illness so they could pray for the sick and deceased.  This would be like a prayer chain.  If you want your name on this list please call Don at the church office 426-1130, so we can get organized.  The other prayer chain is not being used anymore.  This would be a new list of names. Thanks Nora Horecny.

Mother's Day Rose Sale

Church members will be offering beautiful long-stem red and yellow roses after each service on Mother’s Day.  The requested donation for the roses is $2.00 each, and the proceeds will benefit the pro-life work of the Little Way Pregnancy Resource Center at 1143 S. 6th street in Louisville.  This non-profit organization, which served over 1900 clients in 2011, offers alternatives to abortion, free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, referrals, friendship and prayers to those facing crisis pregnancies.  Your support will make it possible to save more lives of innocent babies from abortion and protect their mothers from a lifetime of regret.  “In so far as you did this to one of these least brothers of mine, you did it for me.” Matthew 26:40

Cedar Lake Lodge Craft Fair

Cedar Lake Lodge will be holding its sixth-annual craft fair next month.  The event is planned at 10 AM May 19th at the center, 3301 Jericho Road La Grange, with a wide selection of arts and crafts, plus games, food and prizes.  All proceeds benefit the residents of Cedar Lake Lodge.  For information, call 222-7157 ext. 1151.

Picture Directory

Our last church pictorial directory is from 2006--that's six years! The plan is to self-publish a new directory in the next couple of months. To make this happen, we need your help.

First, we need a picture of your family. If you have a digital picture, that's perfect. Email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Include your name in the email so we know which family to attach it to in the directory. If you are have a professional picture of your family you want to use, please be sure you have permission to reprint the picture.

If you don't have a picture, we will be taking pictures at church on Sundays before and after services. Specific dates for pictures will be announced in the future when they are decided.

If you are homebound or otherwise unable to make it to church, contact the office and let us know. We would be happy to send someone to your house to take your picture. We don't want to leave anyone's picture out of the directory!

Also, we need photographers to take pictures. If you are interested in volunteering as a photographer, email David Robison at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
