Pastor's Message

Greetings, in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Fall activities at Our Savior are in full swing …
  • First and foremost, we encourage all of our adults to attend our SINGLE Sunday morning Bible Study which is being held in the Gym this fall.  We are learning how to talk about our faith with others as the Holy Spirit gives us the opportunity.  Come and See!
  • On Saturday, October 8, from 10am to 2pm, Our Savior will be hosting our tri-annual CIRCUIT CONVOCATION.   All the churches in our two Indiana-Kentucky circuits have been invited to attend.  Caron Fausel will be leading a presentation on Reconciliation.  Lunch will be served.  Come and See!
  • On October 23, Pastor Mark Whitsett of the Cedar Lake Lodge will be preaching at Our Savior and speaking about the work the Lord is doing at that facility.  Come and See!
  • The Reformation will be celebrated at our services on Sunday, October 30, at 8:30 and 11:00am.   A joint service for all the circuit churches will be held at St. John’s in Lanesville at 3:00pm.  Rev. Dean Wenthe, past president of our Fort Wayne Seminary, will be speaking.  Come and See!
All for Jesus,
Pastor Fausel

Notes from the Music Director

Dear friends in Christ,

Our Savior offers a good variety of worship times and worship styles for the benefit of God’s people here.  For the assistance of newcomers and as a review for you seasoned members, here’s a bit of information you might find helpful, informative, and interesting!

Our early Sunday morning (8:30 AM) services have been given the name “Joyful Heritage” to describe these services that are traditional in Lutheran heritage and use the liturgies and hymns from our new hymnal, Lutheran Service Book.  The chief instrument of worship is the pipe organ, and our music leaders are primarily liturgists and the Adult Choir.

Our late Sunday morning (11:00 AM) service has been named “Majestic Celebration.”  We could easily call this service a blend of traditional and contemporary.  Our worship outline follows very much the traditional Lutheran liturgy, though the language may be more modernized.  The music is mainly contemporary in nature, but also encompasses music from our Lutheran hymnody and Christian songs.  The chief instruments of worship are the keyboard, drums, guitars, accompanying instruments and a team of Praise Singers.  The organ is also occasionally used to accompany, and we do see the Adult Choir appear from time to time to assist in leadership!

Nearly all Sunday services at Our Savior celebrate the Lord’s Supper (except for the occasional fifth Sunday of the month), and we also worship together on Wednesday evenings during Advent and Lent.  Parishioners are always welcome at Our Savior Lutheran School’s weekly chapel service on Wednesday mornings, starting at 8:45AM.

And don’t run off after Sunday church!!  We have fellowship, coffee and donuts in the fellowship hall after early church, followed by Bible study and Sunday School between the two services at 9:45. Come and see how we’re growing!  Get involved in the Word as well.

May God continue to bless our worship, praise and study of His Word.  See you in worship and Bible study!

Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.  Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and evermore.  From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets the name of the Lord is to be praised. Psalm 113:1-3

Scott Kamman
Director of Music

Chapel worship: Everyone is invited to worship with the school children each week as they gather for chapel on Wednesdays at 8:45 AM in the sanctuary. It is an excellent opportunity for midweek worship.  Come and join us!

Oct. 5: Principal Martin Brieschke
Oct. 12: Grades 1 & 4
Oct. 19: Pastor Fausel
Oct. 26: D.C.E. Paul Nickel

Song of the month: The children in our dayschool learn a special hymn or song of the month as part of their worship and religion class experience.  For the month of October, they will be learning and singing the hymn, “O Bless the Lord, My Soul,” written by Isaac Watts.  It is based on Psalm 103.  Do you know the words well?

Oh, bless the Lord, my soul!
Let all within me join
And aid my tongue to bless his name
Whose favors are divine.

Oh, bless the Lord, my soul,
Nor let his mercies lie
Forgotten in unthankfulness
And without praises die.

‘Tis He forgives thy sins,
‘Tis He relieves thy pain;
‘Tis He that healed thy sicknesses
And makes thee young again.

He crowns thy life with love,
When ransomed from the grave;
He that redeemed my soul from hell
Hath sovereign power to save.

He fills the poor with good;
He gives the sufferers rest;
The Lord hath judgements for the proud,
And justice for th’ oppressed.

His wondrous works and ways
He made by Moses known,
But sent the world his truth and grace
By his beloved Son.
Text:  Isaac Watts, 1674-1748.  Public domain.

Answer to the September quiz: The hymn that tells us: “For my Shepherd gently guides me, knows my need and well provides me” is “I Am Jesus’ Little Lamb.”

October quiz: Which hymn professes “Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed Thy hand hath provided”?

Contemporary Worship Teams: Singers and musicians, if you are out there, know that we are always in need of volunteers to help us out at our 11:00 AM Majestic Celebration worship services.  We are especially in need of guitarists, as well as wind instrumentalists.  If you would like to sing or play on a regular basis, talk to Scott (426-1130 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  Time commitment depends solely on you, as little or as much as you desire.  We need you!

Hearing Assist Devices: Had trouble hearing well in our sanctuary?  These small sound amplifying devices are available from the ushers.  Please ask for them!  They amplify what is going through our sound system.  (These devices do not work outside the sanctuary.)

Worship Reminders: Remember to turn the ringer of your cell phone off when entering the sanctuary! (If Someone Important needs to get your attention during worship, you’ll hear the trumpet sound.)  Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere.

If you partake of the individual communion cup, please clearly hold the empty cup in front of you to help the communion assistant who is serving the common cup to see that you have already communed.   Thank you.

Have you ever arrived late for worship? Sometimes it is inevitable.  However, please remember that if you do arrive late for the service, wait until the congregation begins singing a hymn, song, or piece of the liturgy before being seated.  That is the appropriate and least distracting time to enter into worship.  Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere!  (Oh, and check your clock before next Sunday!)

Worship Notes

What is the “Epistle?”

Epistle is Greek for “letter.”  The New Testament contains 22 epistles written by Saints Paul, Peter, John, and others that were addressed to Christian churches scattered throughout the Roman Empire.  The second reading in our Divine Service is usually taken from one of these epistles.

In an effort to try to help us all learn about our worship life and liturgy, we offer this little “tidbit” of information each month.  It can serve as a review for you, an answer to that question, “Why do we do that?”, or as a teaching tool for our children or grandchildren.  Please share this with your family. Discuss it prior to worship.  If there is something you would like to have answered, let me know.  I’ll do my best to find out!

Looking to get involved in a musical group at Our Savior?

Adult Handbell Choir meets on Thursday evenings, 6:30 PM in the Music Room.  New ringers are welcome!

Adult Choir meets on Thursday evenings, 7:30 PM in the Music Room.  New singers are welcome!

Contemporary Worship Teams usually rehearse on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings in the sanctuary.  Singers and musicians are always welcome!

Junior Handbell Choir meets on Monday (beginners) and Wednesday (advanced) afternoons, 3:30 – 4:30 PM in the Music Room.  (For grades 4 and up)
