Pastor's Message
Greetings, in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! This month of April will see much of what we have been talking about with All for Jesus going beyond just our “talk” at Our Savior, but also influencing our “walk.” The intent is to join God in what He is doing around us, which is always about building up His Kingdom of Grace in and through Jesus Christ. That means seeing ourselves as disciples with a purpose … of growing God’s kingdom … instead of just being members of a club with high moral character. Yes, it will still mean building each other up in the faith through worship, in Bible study and Sunday School, and even in something new called Family Ministry. Those activities on the surface will look much the same. However they will be focused toward enabling us to live All for Jesus, and in so doing, reaching out in intentional ways to those who have yet to experience a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. To that end, “Disciples Wanted” will begin this month as the ministry needs of the various boards will begin to be posted. Instead of just encouraging people to “go do what you are good at” the approach will be to present opportunities for people to say, “Here am I, send me” in answer to how they feel called by the Lord to serve in His name. Also, coming later in the month we will begin celebrating what God is doing in our midst by keeping track of how He has touched others through us as a congregation and through each of us individually. These are very exciting times, and it is a privilege to see what God is doing here. All for Jesus! Pastor Fausel
Notes from the Music Director
Dear friends in Christ, Our Lenten Journey is almost at its conclusion - Easter Day! But we've got some distance to go yet, and some of this last bit is hard, and it will require ALL of our attention to make it through this part if we want to rightly prepare to truly celebrate the Resurrection. First, during Holy Week, we consider Maundy Thursday - a strangely named day if ever there was one. The word Maundy comes from the Latin phrase, mandatum novum, that is, "new commandment." It is from one of the primary lessons for the Maundy Thursday service, John 13: 34-35: Jesus said, "I give you a new commandment (a mandatum novum!), that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." This focuses our minds and hearts on forgiveness, on developing deep empathy for one another - that is, on understanding one another's pain, on our relationships (or lack of them!), and even on our life direction. The other great scriptural emphasis for the day focuses directly on US. Jesus said, "This is my body... this is my blood... poured out... FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS." We are directed, then, to look inward in self-examination, finding out what WE are doing that is damaging, warping us at our core, and what is damaging to our primary relationships in life. And notice that this doesn't just address sins we have committed - it just says, "...for the forgiveness of sins." Anyone's - committed by us or against us. We are NOT to live in anger or fear or hurt, but are charged to face the problems and work for, if possible, reconciliation and healing. If we carry our own or others' sins around with us, it is like carrying so much extra weight around with us in life. It slows us down, keeps us from living freely and prevents us from experiencing the joy, peace and love that God intends for us. Wow! This is important stuff!!! The final step of our Lenten Journey is Good Friday - Yet another oddly named day. How can a day recalling the events of such a horrendous death be in ANY way "good"? It really is a fair question, for in the events of that day we see all of the worst of humanity focused on one man. We see the greed, corruption, cowardice, fear, self-centeredness, prejudice, all manner of vicious and cruel behavior, brought to bear on that one man who did not deserve it - and, it was all "legally done"! How sad that our societies have a way of legalizing such treatment against others. Not much has changed, has it? So, we enter into this last great day of our Journey with some trepidation - we don't want to face these things - because we see them in ourselves. And that's why this is called "Good Friday," because the events HAD to take place so that our sin could be confronted, so that our punishment could be paid by another, so that our healing could finally begin. "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35 Blessings on this last part of the Lenten Journey. Easter is Coming! Yours in Christ, Scott Kamman Director of Music
Wednesday evening Lenten series
Our Wednesday evening Lenten services continue through Holy Week. The services start at 7:00 PM and are preceded by a light supper, beginning at 6:00 PM. This Lent, we are using a worship series entitled “CHRIST IN THE STRANGEST PLACES - FULFILLED, FORESHADOWED, FOREVER”

Two tablets of stone, a few vessels of oil, simple markings, a small army, a remote field, a solemn oath--these are some of the strangest people, places and things through which God revealed himself to his people in the Old Testament. The Old Testament is chock-full of passion themes, from the serpent being crushed in Genesis 3:15 to Isaiah's Fourth Servant Song. Yet this series looks at some of the lesser-known Old Testament passion themes and focuses on them by means of single words. They were written by Concordia Seminary, St. Louis professor Dr. Reed Lessing. Ash Wednesday "Mine!" • Exodus 20:17 The commandments point out our desire to acquire Week 1 "Nothing" • 2 Kings 4:1-7 Elisha provides for a widow Week 2 "Marked" • Isaiah 44:5 God marks his people Week 3 "Enlist" • Judges 6:16 Gideon's call Week 4 "Invest" • Jeremiah 32:25 Jeremiah buys a field in wartime Week 5 "Finish" • 1 Kings 11:3 Solomon can't finish what he started

You did a great job of leading worship. Thanks especially to families who had students at both services and who went the extra mile to attend both. You are appreciated! Easter Sunrise Service Time Change!! The service time for our traditional Easter Sunrise service has been moved to 7:00 AM. Please note the change on your calendar. Song of the month: The children in our dayschool learn a special hymn or song of the month as part of their worship and religion class experience. For the first part of the month of April, they will be learning the spiritual hymn, “Were You There?” Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb? Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb? Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? Chapel Worship: Everyone is invited to worship with the school children each week as they gather for chapel on Wednesdays at 8:45 AM in the sanctuary. It is an excellent opportunity for midweek worship. Come and join us! Apr. 13: Scott Kamman, Director of Music Apr. 20: Bethany Kuhnle, D.C.E. Intern Apr. 27: Paul Nickel, D.C.E. Answer to the March quiz: The hymn that states “Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus, unto Thee” is “Christ, the Life of All the Living”. (LSB 420) April quiz: Which hymn relates the story “To Jesus, who had blessed them, close-folded to His breast, the children sang their praises, the simplest and the best”? Spring Sing ’11 is in the works at Our Savior Lutheran School. The school choirs in 3-day preschool, Kindergarten, and grades 1-2 will be putting together a very entertaining production for ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages, “Circus Circus.” The show is scheduled for Thursday, April 28. There will also be special music by our other choirs and instrumental ensembles. Put it on your calendar! Contemporary Worship Teams: Singers and musicians, if you are out there, know that we are always in need of volunteers to help us out at our 11:00 AM Majestic Celebration worship services. We are especially in need of guitarists, as well as wind instrumentalists. If you would like to sing or play on a regular basis, talk to Scott (426-1130). Time commitment depends solely on you, as little or as much as you desire. We need you! Hearing Assist Devices: Had trouble hearing well in our sanctuary? These small sound amplifying devices are available from the ushers. Please ask for them! They amplify what is going through our sound system. (These devices do not work outside the sanctuary.) Worship Reminders: Remember to turn the ringer of your cell phone off when entering the sanctuary! (If Someone Important needs to get your attention during worship, you’ll hear the trumpet sound.) Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere. If you partake of the individual communion cup, please clearly hold the empty cup in front of you to help the communion assistant who is serving the common cup to see that you have already communed. Thank you. Have you ever arrived late for worship? Sometimes it is inevitable. However, please remember that if you do arrive late for the service, wait until the congregation begins singing a hymn, song, or piece of the liturgy before being seated. That is the appropriate and least distracting time to enter into worship. Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere! (Oh, and check your clock before next Sunday!)
Worship Notes
The Divine Service, our weekly liturgical worship celebration, contains both changing and unchanging parts. Within the service, there are certain parts – called “the Ordinary” – which remain unchanged from week to week. These unchanging parts give stability, shape, and structure to our worship. They include:
- Invocation,
- Confession/Absolution
- Kyrie
- Hymn of Praise
- Creed
- Lord’s Prayer
- Sharing of the Peace
- Benediction, and when there is communion
- Preface
- Sanctus
- Words of Institution
- Agnus Dei
- Post-Communion Canticle
Look for these elements of worship every week. Next month, we’ll look at “the Propers,” the parts of the liturgy that are different every Sunday. In an effort to try to help us all learn about our worship life and liturgy, we offer this little “tidbit” of information each month. It can serve as a review for you, an answer to that question, “Why do we do that?”, or as a teaching tool for our children or grandchildren. Please share this with your family. Discuss it prior to worship. If there is something you would like to have answered, let me know. I’ll do my best to find out!

Dining Out Together
We will not plan an April outing due to spring break and Easter. Once again it can become one more thing to do rather than an enjoyable evening. We are excited to let you know that on May 14 we will be meeting at the home of Deb and Sue Wolter for a meal to be catered by another of our Taste of Our Savior Restaurants, Mark’s Feed Store. They do a great job catering! Since they really do not have room to accommodate us as a group at their location, we will let them bring it to us! Deb and Sue have a wonderful place in Crestwood where we will have a chance to relax and once again have great food, fun and fellowship. This will be a unique opportunity for us to visit and mingle without seating restrictions or limitations. Since this is different than usual, we will have to sign up early and pay in advance to have the catering service. I will work with Mark’s in the next couple of weeks so that we have plenty time to get the menu and the price out to everyone. There will be more info to follow, just a heads up for now. Mark your calendar to join us for another wonderful event!
