Pastor's Message

Greetings, in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

More about:

Our Savior’s Witness Connection Program

502 – 775 - 9183

As introduced in last month’s Newsletter, this number above is the Our Savior Touch Line.  Use it to give me a call whenever you have had the opportunity to touch another person with Jesus Christ.

… It could be just telling someone who doesn’t know Jesus about your faith…

…It could be explaining the Bible’s path to salvation in Jesus Christ to a non-Christian….

…It could be that you had the opportunity to bring such a person to church so that they would be exposed to the Gospel.

All these things are ways we can “touch” others who do not now have a relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Can you believe it … at our June Council meeting three council members took turns sharing their touches that past week with a bank teller, a Kroger checker and a tradesman, all of whom appreciated the gift of the touch which one of our members shared!  The Spirit is at work!  Praise the Lord.

All for Jesus,
Pastor Fausel

Notes from the Music Director

Dear friends in Christ,

I have worked long and hard on getting my tomatoes and flowerbeds looking good this spring.  After leaving them for a couple of weeks of vacation, I was appalled to see that weeds had already popped up all over my flowerbeds and even in the pots.  It is very discouraging, and I’m about ready to throw in the towel (or the trowel!) and give up!  The situation looks hopeless!  Instead, I know that I will have to double my efforts to eliminate the weeds so that my plants will continue to grow and flourish.  Before long, things will be looking good and I will be encouraged again.

Our Christian life can be sort of like that weedy garden.  After His seeds are planted in us, the weeds of the world come up around the good plants.  They always appear -- uninvited pesky problems.  They sometimes even threaten our existence.  If we don’t do something about the weeds, they will overtake the good plants.  We must double our efforts to bring the good back into sight again.

I pray that our heavenly Father will continue to give you the strength and courage you need to work at the weeds in your life.  Don’t forget to refuel yourself as you work so hard.  Make sure you feed yourself on the Bread of Heaven and drink from the Wellspring of Life!  Hope to see you in church…

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Yours in Him,

All for Jesus,

Scott Kamman
Director of Music

Answer to the June quiz: The hymn that states, “Hence, all fear and sadness!  For the Lord of gladness, Jesus, enters in.  Those who love the Father, though the storms may gather, still have peace within” is “Jesus, Priceless Treasure.” LSB743

July quiz: Which song praises “The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty; Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice”?

Contemporary Worship Teams: Singers and musicians, if you are out there, know that we are always in need of volunteers to help us out at our 11:00 AM Majestic Celebration worship services.  We are especially in need of guitarists, as well as wind instrumentalists.  If you would like to sing or play on a regular basis, talk to Scott (426-1130).  Time commitment depends solely on you, as little or as much as you desire.  We need you!

Hearing Assist Devices: Had trouble hearing well in our sanctuary?  These small sound amplifying devices are available from the ushers.  Please ask for them!  They amplify what is going through our sound system.  (These devices do not work outside the sanctuary.)

Worship Reminders: Remember to turn the ringer of your cell phone off when entering the sanctuary! (If Someone Important needs to get your attention during worship, you’ll hear the trumpet sound.)  Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere.

If you partake of the individual communion cup, please clearly hold the empty cup in front of you to help the communion assistant who is serving the common cup to see that you have already communed.   Thank you.

Have you ever arrived late for worship? Sometimes it is inevitable.  However, please remember that if you do arrive late for the service, wait until the congregation begins singing a hymn, song, or piece of the liturgy before being seated.  That is the appropriate and least distracting time to enter into worship.  Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere!  (Oh, and check your clock before next Sunday!)

Worship Notes

What is the significance of the pastor’s robes?

The alb is the close-fitting white garment that is the standard vestment for pastors.  The name comes from the Latin for white, alba, reminding us that as we are clothed in Christ, our sins are made as white as snow.  It may be tied at the waist by a woven white cord called a cincture. An alb is pictured below.

The stole is a long band of fabric worn by pastors as a sign of ordination since the eighth century. It is often presented during the ordination rite. Stoles are worn in the color of the day, over the alb by ordained ministers. In fabric and color it usually matches the chasuble. It is a symbol of the yoke of obedience to Christ. An alb with a stole is pictured below.

The Chasuble is a loose-fitting poncho-like vestment worn by the celebrant at the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.  It is usually in the color of the day.  It is a sign of the abundance of the eucharistic feast. It has been used as the distinctive eucharistic vestment since the eleventh century. A chasuble is pictured below.

In an effort to try to help us all learn about our worship life and liturgy, we offer this little “tidbit” of information each month.  It can serve as a review for you, an answer to that question, “Why do we do that?”, or as a teaching tool for our children or grandchildren.  Please share this with your family. Discuss it prior to worship.  If there is something you would like to have answered, let me know.  I’ll do my best to find out!

Shutin Ministry

Patients at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jeffersontown are visited each month by a group of dedicated volunteers of OSLC.  They interact with the patients; provide a brief Bible based devotion and prayer; recognize current month birthdays with a gift, a song and a cupcake (with a candle); and play a few games of Bingo.  Additional volunteers are welcome. For more information, or if you would like to join this ministry, contact Sharon Coleman or Annaliese Griffin.

Habitat for Humanity ICE House

Habitat for Humanity
Interfaith Community Effort
ICE House

This year several Lutheran congregations are team with Habitat for Humanity to rehab a house instead of building a new one.  This is in conjunction with Episcopal and Jewish congregations in Louisville.  We as a congregation are supporting this effort.

Rehab location is: 111 S. 41st Street
Homeowner is: Alonte Brock and her family includes her son Santee.

Construction Leader: Jim Richey    NOTE: Jim does not have a fulltime Habitat crew as on past builds which means all the work will be done by the volunteers on Fridays and Saturdays.

The house has been demoed down to the wall so that all the wiring, plumbing and etc can be replaced.

A Ground Blessing was held on June 17th and 18th.

Work will continue on both Fridays and Saturdays for 20 more weekends (not including July 4th and Labor Day) with estimated completion set for Nov. 18th & 19th.

The current schedule has the Lutheran volunteers working every other Friday/Saturday starting June 24th and 25th.  However you are welcome to work any Friday or Saturday that fits your schedule.  Do to the work being done the leader is looking for 8 – 10 volunteers each day.

Sunday Morning Child Care Volunteers Needed

One or two volunteers are needed to staff our Sunday Morning Childcare for children whose parents are attending Adult Bible Class.

No regular Sunday morning Sunday School is being held during the summer months. To allow parents who desire to attend Adult Bible class which is being held during the summer we are attempting to provide childcare for any children present. This takes place in the Kindergarten class room.

Childcare begins at 10:00 AM. We ask volunteers to be present by 9:45. A 30 minute Bible story DVD is provided along with age appropriate coloring sheets and activity sheets to be used after viewing the video. The video will be set up on the classroom smart board so you don’t have to be a computer genius to get it going. Crayons, pencils and markers are all provided and readily accessible.

If you are able to help out or any Sunday until August 21st,  please contact Paul Nickel at 419-2214 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
