Notes from the Music Director
Dear friends in Christ, So you’d like to develop a daily prayer habit, but don’t know where to start? Lutheran Service Book (pages 294–298) offers four simple orders of prayer that you can use by yourself, with your family, or in any other setting. Designed to be used at morning, noon, early evening, or close of the day, these orders help provide a framework for your prayer routine. In each you will find a similar structure that helps to encourage familiarity and build good habits but also allows for adaptation and adjustment for time or different needs. Each order also includes the opportunity for a Scripture reading. Consider using the LSB Daily Lectionary (pages 299–304) here. This daily lectionary provides two readings per day, one each from the Old and New Testaments. Or you may read one of the suggested readings. Focusing on these suggested readings on a regular basis will help you learn them well. Getting into a regular routine is so beneficial to our spiritual growth. I pray that you may find time for daily prayer in your life, in one way or another. Let each day begin with prayer, Praise, and adoration. On the Lord cast ev’ry care; He is your salvation. Morning, evening, and at night Jesus will be near you, Save you from the tempter’s might, With His presence cheer you. (LSB 869:2) If you’d like to own your own personal copy of Lutheran Service Book from Concordia Publishing House, check out www.cph.org/hymnal, or call 1-800-325-3040. Yours in Him, All for Jesus, Scott Kamman Director of Music Answer to the July quiz: The song which praises “The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty; Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice” is “How Great Is Our God.” August quiz: Which song begins “We praise Thee, O God, we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord”? Contemporary Worship Teams: Singers and musicians, if you are out there, know that we are always in need of volunteers to help us out at our 11:00 AM Majestic Celebration worship services. We are especially in need of guitarists, as well as wind instrumentalists. If you would like to sing or play on a regular basis, talk to Scott (426-1130). Time commitment depends solely on you, as little or as much as you desire. We need you! Hearing Assist Devices: Had trouble hearing well in our sanctuary? These small sound amplifying devices are available from the ushers. Please ask for them! They amplify what is going through our sound system. (These devices do not work outside the sanctuary.) Worship Reminders: Remember to turn the ringer of your cell phone off when entering the sanctuary! (If Someone Important needs to get your attention during worship, you’ll hear the trumpet sound.) Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere. If you partake of the individual communion cup, please clearly hold the empty cup in front of you to help the communion assistant who is serving the common cup to see that you have already communed. Thank you. Have you ever arrived late for worship? Sometimes it is inevitable. However, please remember that if you do arrive late for the service, wait until the congregation begins singing a hymn, song, or piece of the liturgy before being seated. That is the appropriate and least distracting time to enter into worship. Thank you for maintaining a worshipful atmosphere! (Oh, and check your clock before next Sunday!)
Worship Notes
What does “Amen” mean?
This word of Hebrew origin means that what has preceded is “true and certain.” Thus, as the congregation’s response to prayers, the Amen is an affirmation that the prayer just prayed is the prayer of the entire assembly, spoken on their behalf. In the Small Catechism, Luther explained Amen with: “Yes, yes, it shall be so.”
In an effort to try to help us all learn about our worship life and liturgy, we offer this little “tidbit” of information each month. It can serve as a review for you, an answer to that question, “Why do we do that?”, or as a teaching tool for our children or grandchildren. Please share this with your family. Discuss it prior to worship. If there is something you would like to have answered, let me know. I’ll do my best to find out!

Youth News!

The youth have returned from Cincinnati! What an adventure we had! We met up with 60 other youth from across the country to serve God's people in the greater Cincinnati area. Our jobs ranged from painting, cleaning up a river to working with special needs kids and working at a nursing home. Each job was difficult in it's own way but our youth stepped up to the challenge! I'm very proud of them. The theme for the week was John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." The devotions each day focused on a part of that verse. We were able to talk about who we are as children of God and what it looks like to bear fruit. It was such a blessing to see the youth grow together as a group! We plan on presenting our trip to the congregation during the Sunday school hour on August 14th. Thank you for all your love and prayers!
Blessings, Bethany

Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT)
Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) has had the pleasure over the last six weeks of providing assistance to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, MO and the Joplin, MO community at large after a large percentage of their town was destroyed by an EF5 tornado. The LERT team would like to thank all of those here at Our Savior who have had the team and Joplin in your prayers. Your support has meant a lot to us as we witness to others.
Since our work in Joplin has started many members have asked how they, too, can get involved in the LERT team. The Our Savior LERT team is open to anyone over the age of 14. If you can sit with a child in need, answer a phone, clean, cook, or do any type of hard labor then being a LERT member is perfect for you.
Being part of the LERT team does not commit you to anything other than a three hour training course. When emergencies occur you will asked if you are interested in being part of that response. That emergency could be as small as making sure one of our members has a ride to a chemotherapy appointment. It could be as big as a national emergency needing multiple response teams. The nice thing about the LERT team commitment is it is fluid. If you can’t make a response one time, maybe you can make the next. Even if you never volunteer for a LERT response you will find the LERT training informative and learn things you can apply to your everyday life.
We would love to have our entire congregation trained and willing to assist those in need. Only God knows where the next disaster will hit. If it happens to be Louisville, KY we want to be prepared to serve our members and community.
The next LERT training at Our Savior Lutheran Church will be August 27th from 1-4pm. The Registration table will open at noon. The cost of the class is $20 and will include Training, training materials, LERT T-shirt (which are to be worn on all LERT responses), LERT badge, and refreshments. A few need based scholarships are available for this class. Sign up sheets are available in the church office. Please feel free to call Tricia Major 475-2370 for any questions you may have related to Our Savior LERT Team or LERT team training.
