Sunday School Information

Thank you for an awesome Rally Day and a successful Sunday School! We are off to a great start and I am so thrilled for this year!  We are continuing to J-walk through the fall as we learn what is means for us to walk like Jesus. We have so many exciting things happening with Our Savior Sunday School; come join us so you don’t miss out!  Classrooms are in competition for a Breakfast party!  Earn points for your class just be attending Sunday School weekly and if you bring a friend, offering, catch someone-J-walking you earn additional points.

We are raising funds, with OSLS Chapel, to buy a bike for two pastors in Africa.  Some African pastors have to cover areas the size of Rhode Island, using only dirt roads or foot paths, spending many hours walking for days from home.  With a bike, he can cover more ground and spread the Good News of Jesus even faster! Offering envelopes are available from your teacher; remember to take them home and to bring them back with a little something extra.

October 7:  Sunday School Teachers: Next Sunday School Teachers Meeting is October 7 at 7 PM.  All teachers, substitutes, and helpers are encouraged to attend.

November 1:  Rally Day 2:  Everyone (children &adults) are invited to join us as we learn of the Bible Studies that will begin.

Operation Christmas Child:  Start saving your shoeboxes today, as we begin to gather items for the boxes.  Watch for information in the weekly announcements and in next month’s newsletter.

Children’s Christmas Program:  If anyone is interested in helping out with the Christmas Sunday School program, please contact Liz Nickel, 415-6838.
January 2008 News
Thanks to all who contributed and helped with Operation Christmas Child! Our Savior provided 85 boxes which were handily sent off to the depository by the Romines family!

The Children’s Christmas Program on December 16, was a great celebration with a re-creation of Los Posadas.  Thank you to all who assisted.  It is hoped that in this re-telling of Jesus birth, the children were able to really focus on how things FELT the night of Jesus birth and REJOICE in the JOY of His coming. We would like to especially thank Mr. Jack Hiegel, Mr. Scott Kamman, and Mrs. Lisa Smith for sharing their musical talents!

We would also like to thank Thrivent for providing the treats for the Children’s Christmas treat bags and for the bibles that were presented to the Third Grader’s in October.  A special thank you to the Kamman ChristCare group, who under the leadership of Sue Francik, shopped  and assembled the Christmas treat bags for the children.

On the 9th of December the Sunday School was treated to a presentation by Mr. Mark Schulz who shared about his trip to China.   Thank you Mr. Schultz!

A THANK YOU brunch is planned to be held for the Sunday School teachers in January or February.  Please keep them and the Sunday School in your prayers as we continue to serve our children and God in this way.  The teachers were wonderful in helping the children learn their parts for the Christmas Program.

Thank you to all the church members and families who participated in Operation Christmas Child.  We will report on the number of boxes delivered in next month’s newsletter.

SPECIAL THANKS to all the students who sang at the November18th service and to Mrs. Crespo who directed the group.  It was enjoyed by all!

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM is scheduled for Dec. 16th at the 11 AM service.  A practice for all Sunday School children will be held the morning of December 15th at 10 AM in the sanctuary.  The children will be performing Las Posadas once again.  Las Posadas translates to "lodgings", and is a traditional Advent/Christmas celebration in Latin America, particularly Mexico.  It dates back more than 400 years to Spain.  It is a reenactment of the story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and their search for lodging.  You won't want to miss this memorable service.
November 2007 News
Sunday School continues to have great attendance!  Thank you for supporting your children in this important aspect of their Spiritual Growth and Development.  (Do you remember times when you were young and how it WAS exciting to see your friends at Sunday School on Sunday mornings?) This does not happen overnight, so give your child a chance to develop these relationships and memories.  Remember, Sunday School starts at 9:45 in their classrooms.  Please try to be on time and don't forget your bibles.

The chosen mission project, EACM FOOD PANTRY (which the church also supports) has been a SUCCESS!  Our very own pre-school teacher, Terry Lindgren, is involved at the pantry and has been able to give us first-hand reports on how well-received our efforts have been in providing food and sundries for many Eastern Jefferson county families!  We will continue to collect items throughout the year, and will have "focused" drives off and on.  Basic staples like toilet paper, pancake mix, syrup, canned goods, and diapers are always needed.

Operation Christmas Child is soon under full swing as the collection dates are November 12-18.  See the list of recommended items enclosed in this newsletter.  Please peruse the list and consider bringing in any of the items and place them in the church office which can be distributed in the boxes.  We pray that you and your family have been able to participate in this worthwhile event. Help your child's class win a prize, as a contest will be held determining which class produces the most number of boxes. Bring in a boy and a girl box, or several!  The congregation will pray over the boxes and dedicate them at the 11:00 church service on November 18.  If you and your family would like to help deliver the boxes that day to the distribution center, please let Leanne Hardin know.

MARK NOVEMBER 18th on your calendars to attend the 11:00 service!  Three important events will be happening then.  The first through sixth Sunday School grades will be singing.  The Operation Christmas Child boxes will be prayed over and dedicated and the Third grade Bible Presentation will also occur.  (Fourth graders present the bibles to the Third graders).  Don't miss these fine traditions.

The Children's Christmas Service is set for December 16th at the 11:00 service.  One rehearsal will be held Saturday December 15th.  We have already started to practice for this, so it this is another important reason for your children to attend Sunday School.  We look forward to having them!

God's Blessings,
Heidi and Leanne
