OUR SAVIOR TEAM

Our Savior is blessed with a faithful and courageous team of staff and ministry leaders who prayerfully consider what God is doing to teach, love, and connect our member with God and others.

I have been married for twenty-two years to my wonderful wife Emily, and we have six kids ranging in ages from 12 to19! Emily and I met at Hillsdale College were we both graduated with a degree in Historic Christianity. After eight years in the Army, I attended seminary in Fort Wayne, where I graduated in 2008. I have served as a senior pastor in Columbus, Indiana and Eastpointe, Michigan.               In 2021 I received a PhD in Christian Preaching and Church History here in Louisville.  I have been Pastor at Our Savior since August 2018 (for the first year I was technically pulpit supply) and truly feel privileged and blessed to be a part of this congregation!

When I’m not studying or working on writing projects, I love to get out and explore the beautiful Kentucky countryside with the family.

I was very interested in music from a young age, and started playing organ when I was only 8! As I got older, I learned piano and began playing for my home church in Seymour, IN. I went to Concordia University- Ann Arbor to pursue a teaching degree with a major in music. God called me first to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Peru, IN in 1987. There I was a classroom teacher, music and choir director, and organist. In 1990, God called me to Our Savior. I started out as a classroom and music teacher, and played the organ. Over the years, my role evolved and eventually I was named the music director of the church and school. I received my Master’s Degree in Music Education from the U of L in 1998.

In 1996, I married Becky, who is also a teacher at our Savior. Together we have two lovely daughters, Hannah and Leah. I lead a small group, and Becky and I are handlers, as well as the caregivers for Mercy Comfort Dog. When not playing music, I enjoy travelling, reading, trivia, listening to all kinds of music, and watching Jeopardy.

I have been married to my husband, Mitch, since 2009. We have three children and a fourth on the way. Mitch and I were high school sweethearts and married halfway through our undergraduate degrees.

I originally studied to be a High School English teacher at Martin Luther College, the WELS College for Ministry. We moved to Louisville right after graduation so Mitch could pursue further education, and we’ve been here ever since! I worked at Big Brothers Big Sisters for five years before becoming a full-time parent for seven years. To my great delight, God has used Our Savior to call me back into church work! I am currently pursuing a Masters in Theology with a Director of Christian Education certification from the University of Concordia - Irvine (online).

In my free time, I love to run and have completed many half-marathons and two marathons. I am on the board for Iroquois Hill Runners and enjoy supporting them in their quest to provide low-cost, family-friendly races to the Louisville community. I am a hobby nutritionist and love to connect with people over plant-based eating. I also love to read. I am partial to anything that could be considered a classic, as well as Tolkein and well-written mysteries.

Mercy

Hi friends, I was born on May 25th, 2013. Did you know that I was in the first class of Lutheran Church Charities trained comfort dogs? That was right before I was placed at Our Savior to be their Comfort Dog in July of 2014. I did all my training in Chicago, but I like the weather in Louisville much better. I spend 20-30 hours each week visiting people who are sick or hurting. When they pet me, it helps them feel better! It makes me feel good, too.

I am a pure bred AKC certified Golden with English Cream coloring. I'm also known around the Comfort Dog community for my long, beautiful eyelashes.

My AKC registered name is Mercy Exodus 34:6. Isn't that neat that my name has a Bible verse in it?

When I'm not working, I love to play with my toys, especially to fetch my ball. I also enjoy just relaxing at home with my caregivers. If you see me at church or around town, please pet me!
